Dr Leshni (Lesh) Pillay

Dr Leshni Pillay (Lesh) completed a Bachelor in Medical Science with honours from University of Sydney and subsequently completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from University of Wollongong. Lesh is an active researcher in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology while completing her advanced training in the field.

Lesh's other interests include advocacy and empowerment for female junior doctors and medical students and she has previously served on the committee for Medical Women's Society for NSW during which she was heavily involved in education, mentoring and advocacy campaigns. Lesh also maintains an active role as a hospital liaison officer for Doctors for Refugees.

Lesh, while completing her Specialist Training, is interested in exploring how she and her peers at this stage of their careers can assist in the development of South Pacific Gastroenterology and Hepatology services.

She is ANZGITA's first "trainee Specialist'' having  participated in ANZGITA'S Fiji program in June 2022. Lesh is a budding Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who is currently an advanced trainee at Monash Health, Victoria, Australia. Lesh traveled to Fiji in June 2022 with a team of  volunteer Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists and senior nurses. In addition to Gastroenterology and basic Endoscopy teaching, she participated in education of local trainees including delivering lectures for Masters of Medicine students as well providing bedside tutorials for junior medical staff.  Lesh hopes to continue ongoing collaboration with the Fiji unit to support the education and training of local staff. Lesh is also currently in process of designing promotional activities for ANZGITA to raise awareness of the ANZGITA'S amazing work and mission, amongst her peers and the new generation of Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists.
