ANZGITA - Building capacity for gastrointestinal healthcare in Indo-Pacific

ANZGITA is a volunteer-based training organisation which services doctors and nurses in developing Indo-Pacific countries through regular in-country intensive training programs with local partners. Amongst our over 200 registered trainers are some of the most respected and experienced gastroenterologists and nurses in Australia and New Zealand. RACS, RACP and the WGO regard our engagement and delivery model as one to be emulated by others.
Our activities, including a burgeoning tele-education program, are directed by a highly qualified voluntary Board led by Finlay Macrae AO, supported by volunteer trainers, governments, private donors, grants, industry and international medical communities.
12 Years Strong - ANZGITA's predecessor organisation GeFiTT commenced its work in 2008 in Fiji when an initial training program was delivered at the new WGO Training Centre. The skills and knowledge transfer (teaching) programs are designed to meet local needs and all members provide their services on a pro bono basis.
With the engagement of the organisation extending beyond Fiji to Myanmar, Timor-Leste and Solomon Islands and the involvement of New Zealanders, the organisation was incorporated and renamed Australian and New Zealand Gastroenterology International Training Association Ltd commonly known by the acronym ANZGITA. The principles under which we operate have not changed and ANZGITA has clear objectives. The incorporated company has a number of governance and regulatory structures managed by a Board of Directors.
To continue and expand our work we require strong on-going relationships with a number of funding organisations. Please contact our secretary to assist our work.
