Dr Aminiasi (Amini) Rokocakau

Dr Aminiasi (Amini) Rokocakau is the acting Head of Unit for Internal Medicine at Fiji National University's College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences. Amini has been involved in the annual ANZGITA led Fiji training and academic program at the WGO Training Centre. He has provided endoscopy services at CWM Hospital (CWMH) for many years in addition to his academic role.

In 2018 Amini further trained in endoscopy for a year at the Royal Melbourne Hospital before returning to Fiji to launch the first public ERCP service in the Pacific at CWMH. Over 2019 and 2020 (until COVID hit) ANZGITA volunteer ERCPists further assisted him in developing his ERCP skills through monthly visits. This work was supported by the PIP program which is funded by the Australian Government. He has continued to successfully provide services subject to CWM facilities availability during COVID times.

He has also led the WGO Endoscopy Reporting project in Fiji. This project has been funded by WGO (Dr Des Leddin as project manager). Provation Medical Australia donated a licence for their Provation MD product as well as assisting with set-up and training. In their own time, volunteers from Queensland Health with expertise in the Provation product, assembled the system and provided training.

Amini spends his spare time with his young family and avidly supporting the Fijian Drua rugby team.
