You can help 'Save a Life' today by donating just $15 to buy one variceal bander! Why is this important? Because even one band will provide a simple procedure that can save a life in a developing country where patients would otherwise experience unnecessary complications leading possibly to death.

Endoscopic therapy is a way of preventing and treating bleeding from oesophageal varices in patients with liver disease, without the requirement for surgery. In the most common procedure called endoscopic variceal banding (or ligation), rubber bands are placed around varices in the oesophagus (gullet) through a flexible endoscope which is used to visualise these dilated vessels capable of bleeding torentially.

Variceal banding stops the bleeding from varices and obliterates them, which significantly lowers the risk of serious life threatening outcomes.

Banding the vein cuts off blood flow through the vein. The banded tissue develops into a small ulcer that quickly heals after several days or a few weeks and obliterates the vein. ... Variceal banding can be done several times to control enlarged varices and prevent bleeding.

Supporting ANZGITA's volunteer community of gastroenterology professionals in their training and support of colleagues in developing IndoPacific countries shows your commitment to advancing the healthcare and quality of life for the people of those countries. Thankyou.

Funding ANZGITA's work

Funding is received from multiple sources; the gastroenterology community, philanthropy, individuals and government, and in multiple forms - financial and in-kind, one-off donation or a lump sum spread over multiple years. To continue we require strong on-going relationships with a number of funding organisations and individuals for:
  • the delivery of existing training programs including support for travel, accommodation and other out-of-pocket expenses that can be a disincentive for prospective trainers who are keen to volunteer their time
  • the expansion of programs both in terms of the services provided and countries where we work
  • equipment and materials acquisition and maintenance
  • specialised high level training out-of-country
  • administration of the association.
We invite you to invest in the future of gastroenterology practice in AsiaPacific, to help build self-sustaining communities of committed and skilled medical practitioners who employ best practice to treat people in need. Exercise your social responsibility by supporting the highly reputed ANZGITA Training Programs and the medical centres with which we partner.
