No-Fee Access to Exam Prep Course Begins in November

ANZGITA Director, Dr Michael Schultz, and the Department of Medicine at the University of Otago, Dunedin, NZ are delighted to again provide Pacific Islands physicians with no-fee access to the live streaming for the RACP prep course 2021. This course covers the entire material of medicine relevant to pass the MRCP exams but is also otherwise a great opportunity to up-date. The course will run from Monday, November 8 to Friday, November 19.   Register your interest at ANZGITA Registrations and share it amongst your Pacific colleagues to make use of this great opportunity.  We are currently finalising the program. For any questions, please contact Pip at  physician.education@otago.ac.nz.

And thank you also to everyone who bought socks through which over $2,500 has been raised.

Our Sincere Thanks to the Following Companies for thier Recent Donations

Mario Cutts of CK Surgitech generously donated 6,000 biopsy forceps. Our sincere thanks to you Mario. Dianne Jones and Chris Hair consulted with centre colleagues on needs. Barry Barford and his Rotary associated and Worldwide (MAFO) Project, ably supported by Pentagon Freight Services in Brisbane and Darwin, who stepped in to pick-up, package into bundle sizes requested by the centres and dispatch. MAFO also paid for transport to each centre. Thank you Barry and Pentagon for generously providing your services to ANZGITA!

They arrived in Palau with thanks from
Dr Myra Adelbai, Belau National Hospital, Palau. Her video message is above on the right.

Whiteley COVID-19 Donation
As a major supplier of cleaning and disinfectant products to the healthcare and other industries, Whiteley Corp has been run off its feet in recent times. However, that didn’t stop Managing Director Darran Leyden responding to Chris Hair's call about the desperate need in Fiji for product.
With Chairman Greg Whiteley’s encouragement, Darran put aside 3 pallets of cleaning and disinfectant product which went on a special Fiji Airways flight along with other aid from Australia. This is the kind of unselfish spirit needed in these difficult times.  Thank you gentlemen.
JGH Foundation Support
It is in uncertain times like these that the value of the three-year (US$45,000) funding commitment by the JGH Foundation is highlighted. The second tranche of funds arrived earlier this year.  Knowing we have this continuity of support will better enable us to respond when our in-country partners are in a position to re-engage, and their needs are clear.  Our sincere thanks to JGHF.

Thank you to our Industry Donors and Sponsors

ANZGITA gratefully acknowledges the support of all our sponsors, donors and grant providers who have generously supported our work, including these providers who have committed long-term substantial support:  Whiteley Corp, CR Kennedy, Boston Scientific, Cantel, Olympus, Pentax Medical and JGH Foundation. They have all demonstrated their support again.  Cook Medical donated funding for our Timor-Leste programs in 2019/20 and CK Surgitech donated accessories for Timor-Leste and Fiji. Getinge donated ultrasonic cleaners in response to needs in Timor-Leste and Fiji. Thank you also to Brett Gebers, CEO, Solomon Airlines.

Marketing - Ckaos Ink for help with graphics and CR Kennedy for help with printing trade show materials generously suppy their services at no cost to ANZGITA.

Funding ANZGITA's work

Funding is received from multiple sources; the gastroenterology community, philanthropy, individuals and government, and in multiple forms - financial and in-kind, one-off donation or a lump sum spread over multiple years. To continue we require strong on-going relationships with a number of funding organisations and individuals for:
  • the delivery of existing training programs including support for travel, accommodation and other out-of-pocket expenses that can be a disincentive for prospective trainers who are keen to volunteer their time
  • the expansion of programs both in terms of the services provided and countries where we work
  • equipment and materials acquisition and maintenance
  • specialised high level training out-of-country
  • administration of the association.
We invite you to invest in the future of gastroenterology practice in AsiaPacific, to help build self-sustaining communities of committed and skilled medical practitioners who employ best practice to treat people in need. Exercise your social responsibility by supporting the highly reputed ANZGITA Training Programs and the medical centres with which we partner.
