Samoa Doctor Training Program 2022

A broad virtual training program will be run in 2022 for doctors at Tupua Tamasese Mea’ole Hospital (pictured right) in the capital Apia who have expressed an interest in developing endoscopy skills. There will be two aspects to the training.

Firstly, the UK based Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy has generously donated licences for its e-learning platform on endoscopy training currently used in the UK.

In addition, Zoom based sessions will be conducted for 39 weeks through the year. Gastroenterologists Ian Turner and Chris Hair and Nurse Endoscopist Karen Kempin will present and lead discussion on a wide range of technical topics and cognitive disorders.
The Samoan doctors will lead on a number of case discussions.

The doctors involved will be further supported by local doctors who have previously attended the training program at the WGO Training Centre in Fiji and the in-country programs run by ANZGITA.
